We’ve Got to Fulfill the Book
It’s hard to speak these days. It feels best to be silent, and let others speak. But sometimes we have to enter our name in the Book.
I have spent many hours in white spaces. I have known what it is to be invisible. If there was inequality, I got the better half. The blessings of my life occurred while others suffered. Any missed opportunities by me came because there were simply too many to count. I am a product of racism and I am complicit.
I am ashamed of how long I did not see the advantages of my whiteness. And I am struck dumb by the depths of the cruelty we have inflicted on our human brothers and sisters.
Our growth and development on this issue–white people–is the single most important demand for a future America. But It is our great honor to take this challenge on. History demands it! This is Dharma!
There is still honor. There is still kindness. There is still America.
And that is the most interesting result of all this horror. When all is lost, so much can be gained. And if from the smoke and rubble a new America is born, I am all for it.
So long as there is honor, kindness, America.
